We’re not yet completely sure what next year’s F1 calendar holds but there’s one date Daniel Ricciardo can ink into his 2014 diary
He'll be driving the Red Bull Racing live demo car at Eastern Creek on March 8th & 9th as part of the Top Gear's Festival Sydney weekend.
THE FESTIVAL WEEKEND IS GOING TO BE AN ADRENALINE-LOADED FEW DAYS
Last year at Eastern Creek (or Sydney Motorsport Park for the youngsters out there) Mark drove the bolts off the RB7 in front of a massive and appreciative audience, so the idea of Daniel kicking off his first season as a Red Bull Racing driver at the same event wasn't exactly a decision to be agonized over.
"I can't wait to be on home soil next year for Top Gear Festival Sydney," said Daniel, with an even bigger grin that usual. "The Festival weekend is going to be an adrenaline-loaded few days. From all reports, Mark put on quite a show earlier this year so it's great to be given the opportunity to be a part of the 2014 Festival and I'm really looking forward to taking on the challenges set by the Top Gear boys."
Quite what those challenges will entail is a closely guarded secret. Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May, together with their Australian Top Gear counterparts Shane Jacobson and Steve Pizzati confirm their plans are 'spectacular' but refuse to spill the beans. This year Mark got to (unofficially) melt the lap record at Eastern Creek and then set about a three-way race with fellow Aussie legends Casey Stoner and Jamie Wincup, and we assume the organisers will be equally inventive this time around – though they do assure us that we'll get Daniel back in one piece and ready to race at Albert Park.
Coming off the back of an intensive (northern) winter programme it will be Daniel's first opportunity, since the switch from Toro Rosso was announced, to drive in front of his home audience. Of course it won't be his first time driving the RB7 – while the 2014 Australian Grand Prix will be race debut for us, he's a live demo veteran and a vastly experienced practitioner in the fine arts of tyre-destroying donuts and ear-splitting burnouts which form the bedrock of our live demo portfolio.
