Two solid days of tyre testing at the Yas Marina Circuit delivers huge mileage for the Team.
The conclusion this afternoon of a two-day tyre test at the Yas Marina Circuit formally drew the 2019 Formula One season to a close. With Max driving the RB15 on Tuesday and Alex in the cockpit today, the Team enjoyed excellent reliability and racked up impressive mileage.
Rather than setting fast lap-times, the primary purpose of the test was to evaluate Pirelli’s 2020 tyres, which have a different profile and construction to those used in 2019. Running was tasked both to understand the tyres from the set-up point of view, in comparison to the tyres used last weekend for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and also to evaluate the aerodynamic impact of the new profile under a range of aerodynamic conditions.
Armed with 20 sets of the new tyres, spread across the compound range, Max completed 153 laps (844km) on Tuesday and finished the day P7 with a best time of 1:39.926s. Today, Alex took over, tasked with confirming and expanding upon the data provided by Max. Alex did 139 laps (766km), also finishing the day P7, with a best time of 1:39.181.
Having accumulated a lot of very useful information, the Team now heads back to Milton Keynes and into what is expected to be a very busy off-season.
