About Ben

Ben Waterhouse, was with Red Bull Racing right at the very beginning – but he certainly hasn’t taken the direct path to his current position as our Head of Performance Engineering.

Ben studied automotive engineering at Loughborough University around the turn of the century, but turned to motorsport shortly after graduation. He began at Bradbourne Drive in December 2003 as a structural analysis engineer, though by the time the cars were being painted blue instead of green, he had become a vehicle dynamics engineer. He stayed with Red Bull Racing through our growth period, leaving at the beginning of  2008 when he moved to Switzerland to take a position at BMW-Sauber.

Ben was part of a talented cadre of engineers that ensured Sauber’s continued prosperity when the Swiss team decoupled from BMW in 2010. He became head of vehicle dynamics during a period when the Saubers were famously one of the most gentle cars on their tyres. He rose to become head of vehicle performance at Sauber before returning to the Red Bull family in September 2014, as deputy technical director of Toro Rosso. Ben had three years with the Faenza outift, before being drawn back into the senior team midway through 2017, initially as deputy head of performance engineering, before getting the step up last summer.
